Our two-plus acre park and garden will be filled with learning activities for individuals of all abilities and ages. A special thanks to the Spiteri family for providing the space next door to Spiteri's Deli. Special thanks as well to the Jenks family for the location of the Children's Garden, which will be next to our Park & Garden, behind Cathy's Sew and Vac. This new location will incorporate accessible park activities and education, with hands-on learning gardens.
Our newest addition to Park & Garden is the Floral Greenhouse! The Floral Greenhouse, which can double as a Butterfly House, is being made with a pre-fabricated steel frame.
Our community is home to a variety of different chickens and hens; but did you know that they come in a wide range of colors, patterns, shapes, and sizes? Our Hen House will showcase different colors and patterns, much like the hens it will house.
Our colorful Rainbow Reading Bench looks amazing! Thanks to a collaborative effort involving employees from all of the Little Red Hen family, the bench is ready to be enjoyed by all. The colorful shapes covering the bench were shaped with cookie cutters and applied to the concrete base.
This project was started by a talented individual named TJ, who has been a longtime employee of Little Red Hen. He drew his inspiration from dinosaurs and various exotic lizards and reptiles.
We now have the "Wall of Hope" installed at the Little Red Hen's Park & Garden. It measures 64 feet long and has 10 years of tiles (464 in total) made by developmentally disabled children in our community. It is BEAUTIFUL! Our staff have been involved every step of the way from framing, building, pouring concrete, to tile prep and more! Needless to say, everyone is excited!
Every day we have melon, tomatoes, squash, and seasonal vegetables for our staff to bring home and eat. Throughout the years we have given a great amount of starter plants to the gardens of many other providers. Our vast selection of fresh fruits and vegetables are available to everyone with developmental disabilities in our community. Our staff has put a great deal of care and time into making this garden something special for the entire community to enjoy.
